Cassowaries:

  • will only lay their eggs on one species of plant;
  • mate as soon as the female hatches from her cocoon;
  • with a wingspan of 20cm, are Australia's largest butterfly;
  • caterpillars store toxins from their food in orange spines on their backs.

Threats which affect this animal in this Menagerie™ ADD-ON Habitat are:

Pigs - destroy vegetation by eating, wallowing and digging around wet areas. They also disturb the nests of ground nesting birds and reptiles and eat native animals and their eggs.
