Little Penguins:

  • are the only penguins to breed on the Australian mainland;
  • sleep in a burrow at night but spend the day at sea;
  • are solitary at sea but breed in colonies; and
  • share incubating their eggs and feeding the young.

Threats which affect this animal in this Menagerie™ Habitat are:

Pollution - including oil spills, chemicals, sewage, soil washing into water, rubbish (eg. plastic bags, fishing lines and nets), may kill animals or their food supply

Cats - eat native animals, compete for food with native animals and may spread disease
